The Kenya Muburi is produced in the Kirinyaga County by the Rwama Farmer's Cooperative Society. The Cooperative has approximately 2,800 members and consists of Muburi and neighbouring Muthigi factories. The deep red volcanic soil and rainfall of 1,500 mm produces an impressive annual coffee production of 194,000 kgs.
SL28 and SL34 are amongst the most well known and well regarded varieties of Africa. They are drought tolerant, suited to grow in medium-high altitudes, and have very good cup quality, but are also susceptible to major diseases and pests. Due to their ability to resist drought and disease, they were selected in the 1930's and quickly spread to other parts of Africa and eventually to Latin America as well. In Kenya, there are SL28 & SL34 trees in many parts of Kenya that are 60-80 years old and still producing quality coffee cherry.
The Kenyan profile is lush, complex, and sweet.
